Seifried Estate is a family-owned Nelson Winery producing world-class wines for domestic and international customers. We source fruit from ten company vineyards across the Nelson region, then process, make and bottle wines at our winery in Appleby which is a 20-minute drive from Nelson. Our family winery is somewhat unique as we run 330 Ha of company vineyards, a modern winery, bottling and warehousing/distribution all within the business. It’s a busy place and we rely on great staff with a can-do attitude! You get to see wine being made: from grafting of new vines through to export to more than 20 countries, everything is completed by our wonderful team, ensuring the highest quality at every step.

We are currently seeking an experienced Cellar Supervisor– showing strong work ethic, who is a team player and can lead by example. Applicants will have significant cellar experience and knowledge of all aspects of the winemaking process. The role involves working with a small team to ensure our wines are produced to a high quality using some of the latest technology in the wine industry.

The role is “hands on” and involves running equipment and leading staff in all areas of the winemaking process including operating pumps and filters (crossflow, centrifuge, RDV), barrel work and completing cellar notes as required. This is a full-time, permanent position at our winery in Appleby.  Normal hours would be 7.30 to 5pm, however longer hours will be required during peak times.

The successful applicant will:

  • assist in planning weekly work, delegating work to other staff and supervising this work

  • create cellar notes and ensure these are accurately updated using our winery software (Vinsight)

  • be expected to set up and participate in Lab trials and routine tastings

  • be experienced in running all winery equipment

  • have a forklift licence and experience

  • be willing to “muck in” in all areas of the winery and bottling

  • have a great sense of humour, even under pressure!

  • have previous experience in running a crossflow and presses is desirable.

Only applicants that are NZ residents or that are legally entitled to work in New Zealand on a permanent basis will be accepted. This is not suitable for working holiday or sponsorship visas holders. This is a Permanent position, not a harvest or short-term role.

We are flexible with a start date - could be anytime before February 2025.
