Saint Clair Family Estate is proud to be a family-owned winery located in the heart of Marlborough. Our quality wines are internationally-recognised and it’s a real team effort to help produce and distribute these wines throughout the world.

This fixed-term position offers a rare opportunity to work with one of New Zealand’s most awarded winemaking teams. We require a full-time Winemaker to cover maternity leave, for a twelve-month period beginning 20th March 2020, plus up to two months’ handover and training prior (ideal start date 27th January 2020). Start and finish dates can be negotiated with the successful candidate.

The Winemaker must be a good team player and communicator, working closely with the senior winemaker and cellar master to produce high-quality white wines from seven different grape varieties with numerous different styles and blends, in a medium-large volume winery. Responsibilities include decision making, logistics and work orders for all stages of the winemaking process, from grape receival through fermentation, blending, fining, balancing, stabilising, filtration and bottle or dispatch preparation.

The successful candidate will have strong oenology knowledge, mathematical skills, problem-solving ability and wine sensory skills. They will have thorough understanding of winery cellar operations and equipment, wine additives, wine laws, laboratory analysis and computer skills. They must have excellent organisational and time management skills and attention to detail, and be able to work in high-pressure situations.

An oenology degree and minimum two years working in a similar winemaking role is required, otherwise approximately seven years in a similar winemaking role. For more specific information on the requirements for and responsibilities of this role, please contact us.

This Blenheim-based role will require 12-hour days 6 days per week over the harvest period, 40-hour weeks for the rest of the year, plus occasional local and national marketing work on some evenings and weekends.

If you have proven experience in a similar role, believe you have the knowledge and skills for this position and are interested in working within our team, please submit your covering letter and C.V. to the postal or email address below, or via the "apply" button above, by Friday 6th December 2019.
