Rothay Vineyards is a family-owned, quality-focused vineyard operation covering over 100 hectares of established vines within the world famous Rapaura Golden Triangle, 10 minutes’ drive from Blenheim. We grow Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for some of the most renowned wineries in New Zealand. Rothay Vineyard currently has a team of three experienced permanent employees.

The position provides an opportunity to join our family-owned company at a time of growth. We are committed to continuous training and the individual growth of our team members.

We are seeking a suitably experienced and enthusiastic Vineyard Operations Manager to plan, lead and conduct day-to-day operations and viticulture tasks.

Reporting directly to the onsite owners your main duties will include:

  • Supervision and organisation of day-to-day operations on the vineyard
  • Management and oversight of permanent staff members (currently three permanent employees)
  • Efficient workflow planning to maximise use of resources including equipment, plant and personnel (both permanent and contractors)
  • Establishing and maintaining safe operating procedures for all vineyard operations
  • Viticulture and machinery duties
  • Inducting new employees and training in viticulture tasks
  • Being proactive towards Health and Safety practices and striving for continual improvement and mentoring of other staff members
  • Maximising fruit quality standards commensurate with achieving targeted production yields
  • Ensuring compliance with Spray Diaries, SWNZ and any other record-keeping requirements
  • Other Duties as required 

Skills and experience required for this position include:

  • Proven leadership skills and experience 
  • Practical Viticulture Experience 
  • Good team player
  • Current NZ Drivers Licence
  • Tertiary qualification in Viticulture – preferable but not essential
