The role includes the production and co-ordination of grapes by understanding and implementing the soil/land preperation, planting, trellising, pruning, irrigation, canopy management and the controlling and montioring of pest and disease programes.
It will also include pruning, fertilzation, irrigation and running staff and training of labour. This will be across a number of vineyards that produce wine grapes in Central Otago.
It is essential to undersatand the vine phenology, climate and soil structure with knowledge around optimal ripeness and the harvest procedure of grapes to be able to report, diagnose and/or solve viticulture problems. Great communication and organizational skills are needed to provide feedback to wine farmers and vineyard managers for best results to be maintained.
Also looking for someone who is technichally savvy and easily adaptable to implement and run new technology systems alongside the viticulture posistion.
A bachelor of science in Viticulture is required for this position.
