| Details: | This event is being held in conjunction with the Academy of Wine Business Research (AWBR) conference at The University of Auckland Business School. Conference delegates are expected to come from all the major wine regions in the world. The programme will conclude with a social hour at 6pm The programme for the afternoon consists of: 1-2pm: ‘Strategic issues in the world wine regions'. This includes presentations from the "Old World" (France - Bordeaux, Champagne and the Languedoc, Spain, Italy) and the "New World" (Chile, the USA - especially California, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand). These will be brief 10-minute presentations to highlight significant issues to do with: * Production patterns and growth 2-3pm: Best papers from the conference. Again, these are brief 10-minute presentations on the conference theme "enterprise diversity and the business of wine", focusing on strategy, marketing, and tourism, and highlight the work of the AWBR. Panel session - ‘Branding New Zealand Wine: Balancing Competing Interests and Identities'. The combination of widespread price discounting, increasing bulk exports, and pressures on grape prices around the country suggest that the golden weather of the last twenty years has gone. There are indications that the shared mutual interests, that have made the industry's collective approach the envy of wine and other horticultural processing industries worldwide, are under severe strain. A panel of invited industry figures and international commentators will consider what is at stake and what can be done to safeguard the industry's collective assets. Invited panellists include: * Tony Spawton, well-known industry commentator and business academic The registration fee for the industry afternoon is $95. Online registration is available via the conference registration page. Details of the final programme will be available on this website in January. Those industry professionals interested in attending the full conference can view details via the conference website. The conference, managed by the University's Faculties of Science and Business and Economics, will be co-chaired by Professor Rod Brodie (general organisation and administration) and Dr Nick Lewis (scientific programme). Conference theme: Enterprise diversity in the business of wineThe conference is intended to bring together researchers and industry members to explore a range of business and marketing topics of importance to understanding business and marketing in local and global wine industries and to working more effectively in those industries. The theme of the 2010 conference is enterprise diversity. When preparing their papers for the conference we invite participants to consider emphasising the diversity of regional settings, business structures, marketing and branding strategies, and business and consumer practices that comprise wine industries. Other events to attendAWBR conference delegates might also wish to visit vineyards in the wine growing regions of New Zealand and attend the following festivals and events.
