Craggy Range Cool-Climate with Adrian Baker

Starts: 23/02/2010 18:00
Type: Event
Venue: Regional Wines & Spirits
City: Wellington
Country: New Zealand
Details: CRAGGY RANGE COOL-CLIMATE with ADRIAN BAKER Tuesday 23 February, 6.00 pm start, Cost $40.00, Limit 30 places

The single vineyard focus of Craggy Range has allowed students of terroir study this concept in practical terms. Cool-climate wines enable the more subtle nuances to be perceived with great clarity, more so than warmer climate wines where terroir distinctions can be blurred. Thus the Craggy Range cool-climate wines have as strong a following as their high profile Hawke’s Bay wines among keen wine aficionados. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Adrian Baker, senior winemaker responsible for the cool-climate offerings of Craggy Range in what will be a sensation tasting of his wines. Adrian put forward a very interesting and eclectic order of presentation which we repeat here: “Everyone loves Savvie start-up” with the 2009 Te Muna Road Sauvignon Blanc. Then the “Fletcher Vineyard bracket” with a 2008 Fletcher Riesling plus the fabulous 2008 Fletcher Noble Riesling, previewed at an earlier tasting here. A “Waitaki bracket” will consist of the 2009 Otago Station Pinot Gris and 2008 Otago Station Pinot Noir. The “Rest of the Pinots bracket” will have the 2008 Zebra, and 2008 plus 2007 Calvert and Te Muna Pinot Noirs. The grand finale will be the “Heavy Bottle Rhetoric filled Glorious run to the finishing tape swan dive finish” consisting of the new 2007 ‘Aroha’ Pinot Noir and a re-look of the 2007 ‘Le Sol’ Syrah. (After all, N.Z. Syrah is cool-climate!) These ‘Prestige’ wines are truly among this country’s finest.
