New focus for MBIE

Change of focus for Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment

A change of focus led to a change of organisational structure for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). David Smol, Chief Executive of MBIE announced the final structure last week.

"MBIE has multiple roles in supporting a strong economy to enable a higher standard of living for all New Zealanders. We need to make sure MBIE is set up to be a consistently high performing organisation, as efficient and effective as we can be in order to maximise our contribution,” says David.

“That is why it was important to review how we are going since we were formed over two years ago and where we can make improvements. We are developing a work programme to address the way we work together as an organisation and this will complement a new structure,” says David.

Changes come into effect from July 1 and the new MBIE structure has seven business groups:

Building, Resources and Markets
Labour, Science and Enterprise
Market Services
Immigration New Zealand
Corporate, Governance and Information
Finance and Performance
Office of the Chief Executive
