Grove Mill is a medium-sized winery, crushing approximately 3,000 tonnes, and is located in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley. We are producers of premium, cool climate style wines including, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. We have over 200 hectares of grapes in the Marlborough area.

About the role

This is a fantastic chance to further your career in a premium, quality-focused winery, contributing at every step from harvest to bottling. Reporting to the Winemaker, this leadership role provides supervision and training to the cellar team. We are looking for a motivated and passionate person who has an interest in the mechanical and operations side of the cellar and ready to take the next step in their career. This role will take on the responsibilities of assisting with the day to day hands on functions and maintenance of cellar plant and equipment.

This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday which will change to 6 x 12-hour shifts during our annual harvesting period where you will lead a shift.

This is a permanent position and not suitable for Working Holiday visa holders. All applicants for this role must be able to work in New Zealand and not require sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Champion safe work practices, strive for continued improvement to enhance cellar operations and efficiencies.
  • Maintain product quality throughout all cellar operations.
  • Ensure efficient running of winery machinery and plant equipment.
  • Contractor management and service and repair scheduling.
  • Lead and motivate a team throughout the year and supervise a shift during vintage.
  • Work effectively as an individual and as a team member, work cooperatively with others.

The successful applicant will need:

  • A minimum of 5 years cellar/winery experience throughout a calendar year.
  • Ability to independently operate winery machinery (Xflow, Presses, RDV, Flotation).
  • Great attention to detail and a safety mindset.
  • A practical approach to solving problems and a can-do attitude.
  • A reasonable level of fitness appropriate for the physical demands of the role.
  • Flexibility to work additional or irregular hours, including afternoon and night shifts.
