Cellar Door Assistant Manager (Sales & Marketing)

Job Function:

As Cellar Door Assistant Manager, you will be required to clearly inform and guide guests during their wine tasting experience.

You must have a professional attitude. You will need to become extremely knowledgeable about all the food and drink items on the menu and, in time, understand how different areas of the company operate. You must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with guests and other staff. You must be able to work in a team environment.


  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Cellar Door and deputize for the Cellar Door Manager
  • Have very good knowledge of wine and an accurate understanding of our menu and hand-crafted Alibi beers
  • Manage the sales function on the website and ensure an efficient operation of the on-line shop, including shipping
  • Aid with domestic and international wine shipments from the cellar door
  • Assist in promoting sales and delivery of wine and beer on Waiheke to retail and restaurant venues
  • Assist in training staff to up-sell to increase sales values in the Cellar Door
  • Have a background in hospitality to understand the multi-faceted venue
  • Be able to provide constructive feedback to Cellar Door Manager in regards to daily operations and team
  • Provide consistent service standards
  • Conduct wine tastings whilst always promoting responsible service of alcohol
  • Conduct group tastings and tours of the vineyard
  • Conduct private VIP tastings to an extremely high standard
  • Maintain stock levels of both the cellar stock and merchandise of our shop and restock accordingly
  • Understand the Point-of-Sale system and Cash up procedures
  • Must have a positive, engaging, professional and fun attitude
  • Flexible hours required through our high and low seasons
  • At least three years hospitality experience – this requirement will be at the discretion of your Manager
  • Ability to adapt easily to other environments in the establishment
  • Be able to guide customers in a courteous way
  • Display attention to detail
  • Have great communication skills and the highest level of spoken English
  • Additional spoken language preferred
  • Be able to work in NZ legally
  • Have or obtain your Licence Controller Qualification
  • Show initiative and undertake sole responsibility of our Cellar Door when necessary
  • Maintain composure, delegate effectively and maintain professional service standards in high demand situations
  • Liaise with our Office Administration staff to confirm restaurant bookings and to assist as and when necessary
