Vintage Laboratory Technicians - Vavasour

Company: Foley Family Wines
Location: Marlborough
Type: Contract
Category: Harvest / Vintage

In New Zealand, Foley Family Wines Ltd operates as a publicly listed company and is home to several of New Zealand's top wine brands including Vavasour, Grove Mill, Te Kairanga, and Martinborough Vineyards.

We are currently recruiting for the following positions for our Vavasour Winery:

  • Vintage Lab Technician x 2

Vavasour is a medium-sized winery, crushing approximately 3,000 tonnes and located in Marlborough’s Awatere Valley.

We are producers of premium, cool climate style wines including, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.

Previous winery and/or lab experience, and/or wine qualifications would be an advantage, as would a current Forklift licence, but is not essential.

Candidates with practical ability, good oral and written communication skills, a team player mentality, and a keen sense of humour will be highly regarded.

These positions will typically commence in early-March, with peak Harvest shifts typically being 12 hours, 6 days per week. A hot meal is provided with each shift during the vintage intake period.

We have a small, extremely capable permanent cellar crew, vintage positions would therefore ideally suit candidates with a passionate interest in wine, who work well under pressure, are able to multi-task, and can carry out their duties in a timely and efficient manner.

We can give some support with Visa Applications and help with sourcing accommodation.

This position provides a unique opportunity to work with one of New Zealand’s leading wine companies.

Please send your application with a copy of your CV to:  HR@ffw.co.nz

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or the ability to obtain a valid NZ work permit.

Applications close on: 31 January 2018.

  • Jobseekers should be aware that the start and finish dates of harvest work employment may change from those suggested by wineries at the time of your job offer. Vintage dates can not accurately be predicted.

It is therefore important that you understand that depending on your employment arrangements with the employer there may be a period of time where you have no work or less work than you were expecting, and should have sufficient financial arrangements in place should this occur. Your actual start and finish dates may vary - if you have queries around this, check with your winery employer before booking airline tickets etc.

winejobsonline has made a big difference to accessing vacancies in the wine industry. I put up the position vacancies on our student winery noticeboard and the students can look at just one source to find a job, rather than trawling through the newspaper or the internet. On our trip north, we finished up a long day of concentrating on wines and vineyards with a beer tasting at Hallertau, sponsored by winejobsonline. It was a great opportunity for the students to unwind and meet Paddy and Heather, taste some great beer and have some very good food. The staff and students really appreciated it!
