We are seeking a Marlborough-based Vineyard Operations Manager who will be responsible for implementation of the annual viticulture plan on the Giesen-owned vineyards. Reporting to the Company Viticulturist, the Vineyard Operations Manager will ensure the best possible outcomes are obtained from the team in terms of fruit quality and financial performance. Input into, and execution of operating budgets and capital expenditure planning, will be required.
The Vineyard Operations Manager will ensure that staff are well supported in their roles, and be actively involved with the further development of the team culture as a single team over multiple sites in both company conventional and organic vineyards, also focusing on all associated functions with growing the grapes on the designated sites.
As part of Giesen’s sustainability philosophy, the Vineyard Operations Manager will be responsible for the on-going development and annual management of the company’s composting facility and program, to produce a beneficial soil enhancing by-product from the winemaking process.
As the Vineyard Operations Manager, you will ensure all employees working in the Vineyard are fully trained for their individual tasks so that these can be achieved efficiently whilst adhering to the company Health & Safety requirements. An active role in the annual reporting of compliance programs such as SWNZ in conjunction with the Assistant Vineyard Manager, spray applications in conjunction with the Company Viticulturist and spray diary management.
The successful applicant will have:
- Relevant degree qualification and be proficient with winery software.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in cool-climate viticulture with particular focus on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, particularly around organic principles.
- Experience in building team culture all aligned in achieving quality outcomes.
- Good communication skills at all levels
