Winery Laboratory Technician
Company: Villa Maria Estate
Type: Fixed Term
Category: Winemaking / Lab / Production
Villa Maria is internationally famous as a winemaker of super premium New Zealand red and white wines. We enjoy global success with our brands while continuing to invest in state of the art wineries to drive further improvements in quality and efficiency.
We are seeking a full time Laboratory Technician starting September/October for a period of approximately 12 months, covering a period of parental leave. You will be working with a small team of highly motivated people who are committed both to the wine industry and the pursuit of excellence.
This is a gritty, physical role which includes manual labour – rather than being fully lab bound, you will be getting out in the cellar with the cellarhands. We have a wide range of varieties come through the Auckland laboratory, with the bottling hall for Villa Maria and associated brands also being onsite. You will also be exposed to export testing which requires strong attention to detail, being compliance focused and carefully following procedures and processes.
For the majority of the year, there will be staggered shifts – the early shift starting 5.30am and the late shift finishing 6.30pm. During Vintage (March – May), there will be increased hours with up to 12 hour shifts, which will include night shifts.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A minimum of 2 years winery laboratory experience (essential)
- A thorough knowledge of ISO17005
- Understanding of MPI requirements for the Wine Act for export testing
- A strong commitment to health and safety
- A compliance and process following focus
- Availability to work extended shifts over vintage, including night shifts
Experience working a vintage in either winery laboratory or cellarhand or experience with the EZY Wine Management System would be an advantage.
If you believe that you are the person we are looking for, apply now with your CV and a cover letter outlining your previous wine industry experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is required.
